Welcome to Elaine’s Attic. I started this business recently after getting hooked on quilting instigated by my mom and my Aunt Elaine. A brief history of how this happened: My Mom found some quilt pieces in the attic that my Grandmother had cut out but never sewn together. She found enough for both my sister and me. She gave them to my Aunt Elaine to sew together. Once my Aunt was finished, my mother presented my sister and myself with our quilt to pass down to our daughters. I used to sew as a teen and make all my stage clothes. I had given my sewing machine back to my mom a long time ago. My honey bought me a sewing machine for Christmas and the next thing I know, I am piecing and quilting two identical quilts for my twin nephews birthday. I was so enthralled with the process that I spent many nights up until 1 AM sewing to get them finished. I was hooked. Elaine’s Attic started from my addiction to quilting and my honey introducing me to online selling through eBay. Now I spend plenty of time looking for fabrics at a reasonable price to pass on to my buyers. I opened a brick and mortar in May 07 here in Columbus NC. It is 5 miles from the interstate, so drop by if you are in the area. My quilting legacy: I have also perfected the stitch that I call "Drunken Sailor". It is when I try to stitch in the ditch and can't seem to sew a straight line. I guess that is why Paula Nadelstern is such an inspiration to me. People ask how I chose the name Elaine’s Attic. I chose it for two reasons: 1. Quilters Anonymous was already taken and is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the quilting heritage. 2. I was named after my aunt.
